What stands out is how it embeds resilience checks directly into CI/CD pipelines—so resilience evolves alongside your code, not after it fails in production.

What I love is how it blends cloud elasticity with the predictability of colocation, letting ad exchanges run at hyperscale while staying nimble. 📢 [**Amazon DynamoDB Service Disruption – Postmortem Report**](https://aws.amazon.com/message/101925/)  
On **October 20**, AWS experienced a rare and widespread service disruption in the **N. Virginia (us-east‑1)** region. What’s remarkable is that it wasn’t caused by a catastrophic failure—but by a **tiny race condition** deep within DynamoDB’s internal DNS management automation.

A delayed update from one DNS process accidentally overwrote a newer plan and deleted every IP address for DynamoDB’s regional endpoint, leaving dependent services like EC2, Lambda, Redshift, and NLB temporarily stranded. The cascading impact was immense, showcasing just how intertwined cloud systems really are.

What stands out to me is AWS’s transparency and technical depth in explaining this event. They didn’t minimize it—they detailed how automation, replication logic, and timing all intersected to produce the outage, and what’s changing to prevent recurrence.

If you build or operate distributed systems, this is essential reading—both for the engineering lessons *and* the culture behind it: **investigate deeply, learn openly, and improve continuously.**
